Welcome

Welcome to the interactive companion to the Parent 2.0 wiki. Wikis are helpful for collaboration, but are not so useful for conversations. This site provides that venue for discussion and exploration of the ideas associated with building a K-12 Parent Portal in the Parent 2.0 wiki.

You may post anonymously or create an account to be kept informed of changes on the site. If you choose to create an account, please click here for additional information. Thank you for participating!

Implementation Guide

This site will also be the home of the K-12 Parent Portal Implementation Guide (click the "Guide" menu tab to access). Join the journey and provide feedback as the Guide is developed. The Guide will reside here as a tool available for use and a pdf version will be available for download.

Join the Discussions

There are two ways you can participate:

First, you can participate in the conversation specific to the development of a K-12 Parent Portal. Click the menu tab "Conversation".

Second, you can join an existing discussion specific to you or in the general forum or by starting your own discussion thread, or in the general discussion forum. Click the menu tab "Forums".

About

Both the Parent 2.0 wiki and this interactive companion were originated by Cindy Seibel (the site owner), a graduate student at the University of Saskatchewan. Both sites are licensed under a Creative Commons license which provides for the content (whether available or contributed by posts and comments) to be shared publicly with attribution to the site owner. Your input will contribute to the development of a K-12 Parent Portal Implementation Guide being prepared as a Master’s project by the site owner.

A portal works on the World Wide Web to provide a personalized gateway to resources and services that are relevant to the person seeking them. For parents this might include the ability to connect with information and services relevant to their child’s learning and activity at school through any computer connected to the World Wide Web. The research literature demonstrates positive impacts on student learning from parent engagement with schools. A parent portal will use technology and the World Wide Web to increase opportunities for parents and schools to engage and share information. Defining how the Parent Portal will function needs the input of the parents like you who would use it.

You are invited to participate in this website's discussion forums to help define how a Parent Portal would work. By posting on this website you are agreeing to participate in this project. The content you provide will not be attributed to you by name. The content of the whole website will be used not only for the Implementation Guide but may also be published in papers, shared at conferences, and shared with other school districts engaged in similar work.

This project has been reviewed and approved by the University of Saskatchewan’s Behavioural Research Ethics Board on October 10, 2008.

You may post anonymously or create an account to be kept informed of changes on the site and notitified when the Implementation Guide is ready. If you choose to create an account, your user name and email information will only be used to contact you directly by the site owner and will not otherwise be used in the development of the K-12 Parent Portal Implementation Guide or shared in any way.

Please use the contact form to submit any questions or concerns about the site to the site owner, Cindy Seibel. Thank you very much for participating in this project.
